5.1 Discussion of Results

5.1 Discussion of results

The SSRT is successful and fully functional. It is able to detect and digitise the VLF signal received using Spectrum Lab. It is also able to pick up spikes in signal strength during morning and afternoon when ionisation of the ionosphere is high. The results of our SSRT follows a smilier trend to the charts from GOES x-ray flux. During the time of research, no unusually high intensity solar flares were observed as there were no unusual intensification colouration in the spectrogram or unusual spikes in the signal strength. Therefore, it can be concluded that the project is a success as the engineering goals were met, including the cost price. Many troubleshooting processes were required to ensure that the signal recorded was correct and was of strong power. For example, to enhance the signal detection, the SSRT’s placing was adjusted and the amplification circuit was rectified.
