2. Engineering Goal

Our goal is to make a school-based solar storm radio telescope (SSRT) that can indicate the occurrence of solar storms by receiving and detecting changes in the radio signals from the VLF station located in Australia, Harold E. Holt.  We will match our data to the charts on X-Rays flux provided by the Space Weather Prediction Center’s GOES Satellite. The data will then be uploaded onto the internet cloud for easy access by anyone. The cost of the SSRT is projected to be around $300, which is much cheaper than the radio telescopes that are used by weather stations around the world.
